EMI will be bashing away at their dead cash cow again this spring, releasing a greatest hits album to tie in with Radiohead’s world tour.
Guitarist Ed O’Brien revealed that the band’s former label were planning the release in an interview with Canadian music TV.
“They’re planning to do a greatest hits for April, May to coincide with our tour,” said O’Brien. “That’s an interesting one. We won’t be doing any promotion for that, obviously.”
Obviously, though I’m sure Guy Hands will be scratching his blond curls for ways to maximise profit on what could be one of EMI’s biggest releases of the year.
The plans correspond to comments made recently by Hands, the new boss determining to unlock the value in the label’s back catalogue – a policy seen already in the release of the infamous EMI/Parlophone-produced boxset back in December.
Drummer Phil Selway, whose band have made a tidy sum from most recent album In Rainbows according to reports, doesn’t seem too concerned with matters being taken out of Radiohead’s hands:
“It’s well within their rights to do it. So we’ll have to see.”And see we will, but ‘til then – click here to have your say on which tracks should feature on the greatest hits album.

lol @ EMI!
more lol @ the fools who will buy it
I really hope...
that they introduce that sponsoring of albums they keep threatening for this.
Who should sponsor it - ESSO, BP, Macdonalds??
not really
they'll make a mint.
i meant in the sense that they're
trying to not die on their asses by releasing this.
i bet they've had it all ready to go for a while now, as some kind of 'if all else fails' option.
har!
Why not a b-sides box set?
I'd be happy enough for them to wring out a bit of cash from me for that, since I can't be fagged to buy all their singles.
Easy money. And something I want.

Suggested title for the best-of compilation: '1993 - 1997'
WITH YOU
all the way alex-in-ciderland.
...
Except that Kid A came out after 1997 and has like, 14 of their best tracks on it. Which is weird because there's only 11 tracks on it to begin with.
^see what you did here.
Clever. Amnesiac/Hail not do anything for you then?
stealthy
i hpoe you don't like, like acrually talk like that
in turn
i hope i don't spell 'actually' like that..., like
hpoe?
wow, that glass of meths at lunch musta really hit me
...
I like, totally do.
Bastard
I was going to make the same joke, not that I think Pablo Honey is much chop, but because it's guaranteed that Creep will be the first song on the album, and perhaps the last, and perhaps a remix in the middle somewhere.
They could of course just do a double CD of greatest hits - the Bends on one CD and OK Computer on the other.
it was only a matter of time before this hammened
but it's pretty lolable, although i agree, it would have been wiser to release a b-sides one. t least they won't have any original art work for this release
No number one singles on this release
Are Radiohead the biggest band never to have had a number one single?
No Greatest Hits
If you to think that's a bad joke from EMI, and that it will contribute to denature the work of Radiohead.
