The nine piece Do Me Bad Things share the same label as The Darkness, and also share a love of the flamboyant, sleazy rock guitar flourishes, and a sense of the ridiculous.

'What's Hideous'? is most certainly all these things, a bastardisation of glam rock, soul, and that horrible FM pop they supposedly play on Californian radio stations or of the ilk used to soundtrack computer game 'Vice City'. To say 'What's Hideous?' is the sound of the Scissor Sisters being buttfucked by Motley Crue wouldn't be too wide of the mark.

However, to these ears DMBT sound like Skunk Anansie jamming with S Club 7. With this in mind, I really, really want to hate this but you can bet your bottom dollar that once the sun comes out again I'll be gryating my sweet, sweet ass to this record all summer long (baby).

Which leaves one final question: just what exactly is hideous: this record or my hairy arse? I think we all know the answer to that one don't you?

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

What an odd review.
You intimate that either this record or your hairy ass is hideous, which leads one to assume this record isn't.
It is in fact a wonderful song by a wonderful band.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

This is the sound of all the doors being blown open at muso-college...i.e wank.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

It's okay. Nothing to write home about, tune-wise.

Saw them live - almost certainly only signed because of the Scissor Sisters. Obviously. Quite fancy two members of the band, which is always a good start. They need some stronger songs, but it's early days yet I guess.

Re: Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

>Quite fancy two members of the band

Please tell me it's not those two backing singers who do nothing except preen and pose, and who give the impression that they just walked up to the others like the kids at school that think they're better than everyone else and went 'WE can be in your band...'

Is it?

I gave them the benefit of the doubt and watched them at Reading last year because people said that they wound up the sort of people that hate The Darkness. I love The Darkness. I thought Do Me Bad Things were terrible... pub rock.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

terrible, terrible, terrible song. they've got all these elements, and they think they're being really clever by trying to mash them all into each other... except it's like trying to push two magnets together and they...just... dooon't...wanna....go.... it just sounds lumpy and ugly and clumsy. and shit. the lead singer lady can sing, but the rest of them should really just... go and become bricklayers or something.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

I saw this on MTV2 the other day and honestly it is the most bizarre thing ever. It's like the singer from M People singing over that riff from that OK Go song from a couple of years ago, aping the end bit from Laura by the Scissor Sisters when the man and the woman exchange lines, with random bits of coffee table pop music spliced in the middle. They appear to have about ten band members, most of whom do nothing whatsoever. And what the hell is it on about? Why does she keep saying "what's hideous" every five fucking seconds?

Re: Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

that ok go song wasnt bad was it? hell of a riff anyway. rifftastic, as some would say. riffumungous.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

This song is quite fun if its sunny and you play it REALLY loud.

Otherwise its shit.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

I think this band is for real - you have to take the whole thing, they are one of the most entertaining live bands around at the moment - they enjoy what they do, they are putting fun into music instead of politics and misery, nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with politics and misery either but this lot are a breath of fresh air for the summer. Saw them recently, they've come a long way since Reading last year.

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

I saw them on cd:uk (i know, why?) and they were all wearing t-shirts with their band name on. Isn't that a bit...like...er...naff? Aren't they selling their merchandise or something? Or do they constantly need to remind people who the hell they are?

Do Me Bad Things - What's Hideous?

Ah, opinions & assumptions. We wore the T-shirts because they were new & they had just been delivered to the CD:UK studio for some reason. So we just felt like wearing them. Plus there's a righteous sigma about self promotion with bands... So we decided to do it anyway.

Ya know, I usually stay away from reading stuff like this because I feel like I'm evese dropping in on some sort of secret virtual conversation... But then I feel like I really wanna correct people because they go off on some sort of tangent about 'what they think' when the reality is something totally different. Guess I'm just rambeling about my own frustration...

Anywhoo, I better go... Sould never have been here in the first place.
