Brief Band History:
Hans Östlund and Nick Vahlberg met at school in the suburb of Solna, outside Stockholm, Sweden in 1981. Having discovered they had the same musical tastes and decided to start a band. Their fondness for American punk rock (Ramones, Stooges & The New York Dolls) became the inspiration and foundation for the Nomads' sonic agenda.
Their debut record release came out in November 1981 when Hans' dad put out a 7" single on his own label. In 1982, they signed to Amigo Records and put out their second single. The Nomads started to prepare their first 12"release, the "Where The Wolf bane Blooms" mini-album (released late 1983). "Wolfbane" was a massive success among critics in Sweden and got the bush telegraph buzzing outside of their homeland. Closer Records in France was the first label to sign the band outside of Scandinavia and at the end of 1984, coinciding with the release of their second mini-album "Temptation Pays Double", the band embarked upon their first European tour.
The band's reputation had travelled to the USA and in early '85 a compilation of the "best of" both mini-albums entitled "Outburst" was released stateside. "Outburst" was a huge success, with the influential writer Robert Christgau dubbing it as "the best neo-garage album ever made", and charting at # 12 in the US national rock indie-chart.
From '87 onwards, the band has continued to release albums "Hardware" (Amigo '87), "All Wrecked up" (Amigo '89), "Sonically Speaking" (Sonet '91), "Powerstrip" (Sonet '94) and "The Cold Hard Facts of Life" (Lance Rock '96). Gradually refining the Nomads sound without ever losing any of the power and energy of the early days.
In 1999 The Nomads signed to White Jazz Records, home of The Hellacopters and many other luminaries of the "new wave" of punk/garage/rock 'n' roll bands that have emerged from Scandinavia in recent years. This was a logical step - The Nomads are hailed as a major influence by most of these bands. To date White Jazz has released the album "Big Sound 2000" ('99) and the single "The King of Night Train" (featuring backing vocals by the an amazing r 'n' r tag team of Joey Ramone and Handsome Dick Manitoba). In April 2001 - the year of the Nomads' 20th anniversary, saw the release of a brand new album: "Up-tight". Long time collaborator and unofficial fifth Nomad Chips K once again handled production duties to come up with what might their best yet.
Bringing us bang up to date, the band have been celebrating their anniversary in style over the course of 2001. A sold-out Stockholm show in April was just the start of an amazing run of gigs across Europe. An appearance at Sweden's Hultsfred Festival saw them joined by the real punk rock cognoscenti such as Wayne Kramer (MC5), Handsome Dick Manitoba and Ross the Boss (Dictators), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) and Chris Bailey (Saints).
