Paul McDowell and the Peppermint Pigs
Bio
Paul McDowell and the Peppermint Pigs are:
Paul: guitar, vocals
Alistair: cello, bass
Joe: drums, guitar
Paul McDowell picked up his first guitar when he was eleven and has been writing songs since the age of thirteen. He embarked on a string of solo gigs around London in 2002-2003 with just vocals and acoustic guitar, which proved an excellent platform for his raw, moody songs. He quickly built up a following at venues like The Bull & Gate and The Garage. Due to low income levels and high rent, he had to move out. When he hit the Liverpool music scene in September 2004, his individual style of writing and performing soon attracted people who wanted to join his musical trail. He met Alistair the cellist at an open mic night in Stamps, Crosby. From their first jam, they musically and mentally fitted together. Alistair started to accompany Paul at a few of his gigs, performing at various venues around Merseyside including, the Cavern Club, the Tea Factory, Zanzibar, Quiggins, Stamps, and the Barfly.
After auditioning and jamming with various musicians, Joe's individual style of hard hitting, thoughtfully placed drumming stood out as the key addition to what was already a winning combination with Paul and Al. The bass/cello and drum/guitar combinations offered by Al and Joe complemented and transformed the music of Paul McDowell into the unmistakably ethereal, powerful sound of Paul McDowell and the Peppermint Pigs.
Besides kick-starting his career in the North West, Paul McDowell has also been regularly gigging abroad in Germany in Bochum, Oberhausen, Dusseldorf and Cologne. The band is due to perform in Germany in July 2005, followed by a tour of the UK in August/September.
