Official biog: The abrasive super intelligent future rock sound of Mazuma Fly is a viscerally exciting mix of talent and rage that illuminates the modern condition while respecting the traditions of the very best of rock. The band was born in an incendiary mix of desperation and inspiration. Its creative heart, singer Jamie Jenkin and guitarist/producer Rick Morris, were schoolfriends reunited when Jamie returned home from a soul-destroying spell in Cardiff after suffering a breakdown. His music was to be his salvation as the two spent hundreds of candlelit hours in a makeshift garage studio crafting a series of songs which formed the bedrock of Mazuma Fly¹s original recordings. Having created the music on record to the acclaim of a local audience, it had to be heard more widely so drummer Dan Vickers - another schoolfriend - and bassist Mark Briggs joined Jamie and Rick to carry it on to the national stage. Mazuma Fly¹s influences take in the energy of At the Drive in and the claustrophobia of Joy Division, blended with the revolutionary politics and mindset of The Clash to create the first truly politicised band since the early Manics. Radiohead¹s angst is also in the mix and reviewers have compared Jamie¹s performances to David Bowie and David Byrne as the band¹s lyrical power and stunning percussion, bass and guitar combine to bring an experience in sound that is impossible to forget.
