Fickle Public

Bio

[Edit this profile]
Originally formed in 1999 under the name of Purple Munkie, the band have already achieved a great deal in their short lives. With releases on numerous labels including Aberdeen’s Alphabetty and more recently Fierce Panda in London, they have built up a strong reputation as one of Scotland’s best up-and- coming talents. Radio airplay from the likes of John Peel, Steve Lamacq and XFM prompted Radio 1’s Session in Scotland to invite the band to record a session at CAVA studios in Glasgow for broadcast in April 2002. This session went on to be nominated for session of the year by the show’s presenters. Live, the immediacy and energy of their highly charged performances has been noted on many occasions with a front page review on In The City’s daily tip-sheets and invitations to support high profile acts like a Hundred Reasons and The Libertines.

In May of last year the band parted company with their original drummer allowing them to invite hard-hitting Lewis Gale to fill the slot. Over the past year they have developed a sound retaining their raw punk energy and demonstrating diverse influences, sound musicianship and boredom with the verse-chorus-verse, 4/4 time song tradition. Having spent the past few months getting a brand new set together the group felt it appropriate to recognise the changes in sound and line-up by adopting the new name Fickle Public. A number of new releases are to be expected over the coming year on their own Formal Records imprint - which will also feature releases from a roster other bands/artists that the label are currently putting together.

The band have since supported Alkaline Trio at Glasgow Barrowlands, and toured with Jetplane Landing. They have a track, 'Kittens Got Claws', on a Smalltown America compilation CD.
