Birdhouse

Bio

Band member(s) names - role in the band:
Matt Walder - Vocals & Guitars
Matt Fowler - Bass
Aides Worman - Drums

Brief Band History:
birdhouse decided to help themselves by recording and releasing self-funded debut single 'My Television Set' in November 1997. Although only available in Brighton and via mail order, the CD received much praise and support from local indie retailers and fanzines alike, with positive reviews and exposure resulting in credible sales and a growing fanbase.

Though birdhouse had been going since early 1997, it wasn't until 1999 that the band really took themselves seriously. Local label 'Dark Angel Records' offered to put out a 12" to kickstart the bandwagon, and to positive effect. '16-Bit' was released in October 1999, raising the eye-brows of the likes of Mary-Anne Hobbs and John Peel, who paid the ultimate compliment by airing 'Birdhouse Of Pain' several times last year.

Shortly after the band we're back in the studio again. The results of which were made available on internet music site peoplesound.com. The response on their homepage was exceptional. Hits on the page had reached the thousands within a few months, and by August they had been confirmed as one of the four peoplesound bands to play the V2000 Festival after topping a voting process set up by the web site. Since then things have gone from strength to strength, despite losing original guitarist Ross to the lures of world travel, reducing the band to a 3 piece.

Well several months on and having recently recorded arguably their best material to date, birdhouse look set to take 2001 by the balls. Having built up a excellent rapport with local band Supercoolwater, the two bands are intent on putting Brighton back on the map. And do we hear whispers of a split single? Well, that would be telling.......

Future plans (releases, tours etc):

The new EP 'Look, It's Satan' is now available to buy/download at our peoplesound.com page. As well as 3 new tracks it also includes a new (much slower) version of Adventures Of Birdhouse. Originally re-recorded back in August last year for a Surf FM Metway Session, Adventures was slowed right down and featured a piano track, though since becoming a three piece the track has been totally re-worked and was recorded again, though both the change in tempo and the added piano remain.

Track 'No Snare' also features on compilation CD 'No Objection' which is released on Monday March 26th. For more information on this release (and details on how to order) click here. Two more releases are due out in the next few months in the shape of two split singles. The first is a 7" split out on Oxford based label big scary monsters featuring the track 'Etienne', which should be out some time in April (check here for updates). The second being the long awaited split with supercoolwater. Artwork and distribution arrangements are currently underway and we hope for a May release.
