Once upon a time there was a musical genre that was christened 'C86' because err...it featured a load of bands that had floppy fringes and played guitars and was recorded in 1986.
Obvious really, I guess (?)
Anyway, The Sweethearts sound like they could have emerged from a 20 year old time tunnel as mysterious singer Amy Sweetheart sounds like a dead ringer for Talulah Gosh (and later Heavenly and The Marine Research) chanteuse Amelia Fletcher. Who of course, she may be...?
'Blue Skies' is a simple pop song that cynics would describe as being twee, yet to the rest of us is pure bliss in a polka dot dress and alice band. 'Rainy Skies' meanwhile, is like a fairground carousel being played backwards, whilst the vocals switch between sweetly hushed verses and sour laments that can only point to one thing - the poor girl's been dumped. Still, if that inspires her to make songs so damn, irresistably catchy as these then...form an orderly queue.
