With hip-swinging fun sufficient to sway even the nastiest chauvinist into reconsidering their take on equality, The Gossip are feminism-inclined rock with a crucial difference.
Empowerment has always come from the strangest places – Arkansas in this case – and the title track from their upcoming LP is insistent, unapologetic, and actually carries worthwhile encouragement on how to grab life by the proverbial horns.
That and a perfunctory Le Tigre remix aside, what separates this from the boy-hating crowd is the frightening lung capacity of fantastically indie entitled vocalist Beth Ditto, who regularly hollers bloody murder without ever resorting to all out screaming.
And as easy a pay-off line as it is, the restrained whispered excitement over The Gossip should really be amplified sharpish to make them the talk of every town.
