Arctic Monkeys

I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor

Label: Domino Records Release Date: 17/10/2005

9695
dionisio by Rob Webb October 20th, 2005

They're getting everywhere, these 'Monkeys. This, their debut for Domino Records, is the song which brought the Sheffield four-piece to Radio 1's attention back at the turn of the year. Since then, every Tom, Dick and Jonze has jumped on the bandwagon (not to mention picked up the handbook).

In many ways, it's an odd choice; the band themselves have said they dislike the track and it's not an obvious commercial smash. Still, at this moment in time they could probably release throwaway B-side instrumental Chun Li's Spinning Bird Kick and trouble the upper echelons of the charts.

I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor might not be one their best, but with raucous lead guitar, a beer-friendly singalong chorus and more energy than a lorryload of Duracell, it sure beats listening to James Blunt.
