It can’t be easy following up Love + Pain, already an easy contender for single of the year, but Brixton’s Clor must have the resolve of champions as that’s just what they’ve done. A story of eyes meeting across a crowded dancefloor, Outlines is the perfect soundtrack to those seeking romance down the local indie disco and is fittingly told with plenty of toots and squelches.
Most of all this song is fun; when Barry Dobbin sings _‘Each of us is special in our own unique way,’_ over a buoyant electro backing only the darkest curmudgeon won’t be feeling chipper. Belying this blatant pop is a sonic deftness reminiscent of the Postal Service; it’s only after a couple of listens you realise quite how much detail is bubbling away beneath the jaunty surface. But thinking about it too much defeats the object; if they played this kind of thing on Top of the Pops it would still be on BBC1. It’s happy, shiny and makes grown men want to bust some moves.
