Hey there Antihero, there seems to be something slightly different about you... is that a new haircut? Shined your shoes? Or are you harnessing that experience in the rawk world and shifting towards a more ‘polished’ sound that we only partially fell in love with you for?
Not that they’ve gone all ‘Rolling Stones T-Shirt’ and made a new ultimate radio-friendly ‘punk’ anthem or anything but ‘Body Rot’ seems to show all the hallmarks of a pop-metal hit – the big power-chord intro, the yearning “Nobody needs me like you” lyric, the deceptively bouncy chorus...
Endeavouring to create a full-bodied tune isn’t a problem per se, of course, it’s just that without the beats and paranoia and untamed noise that initially got us so besotted it seems like it’s a trendy trucker cap and a celebrity girlfriend away from Lostprophets territory.
Worry not because despite this not being the juiciest pick off the album ‘This Is An Emergency’ - most of that’s become single-format fodder already – 'Body Rot' proves that the ‘Hero can still craft dark and beefy guitar-toters of a ferocity unafforded by many of their contemporaries, Stratford-dwelling or otherwise.
