Feeder bloke Grant Nicholas has been seen hanging out with Chris Martin and Fran Healy (who, along with band mate Dougie Payne, ‘sings’ backing vocals here). Unsurprisingly then, Feeder’s new single ‘Tumble And Fall’, sounds exactly like Coldplay and Travis.
It’s also the most insipid thing Feeder have committed to record in quite some time. This is indie-guitar-‘rock’ by numbers with a bored sounding Nicholas yawning his way through some half arsed songwriting: ‘Together we crawl/ forever we’ll be/tumble and fall’. Mmm...
See, Feeder, like so many artists before them, have reached the comfort zone. They’ve sold a few units, made a few bucks, and can sell out aircraft hangers with ease. Gone is any drive or passion they ever had in the first place, with the likes of ‘Cement’ or even ‘Buck Rogers’ sounding like a distant memory. Sure there may be a good reason for that (do I really have to spell it out?) but surely Feeder are capable of doing better. Shame.
