With the inevitable mixed reaction to last full length 'All Is Dream' all but forgotten - you try following something like 'Deserter's Songs' - Mercury Rev's new, download-only single is a wonderfully epic return to attention-grabbing form. Indeed, it reminds you what all the fuss was about once they'd ditched their drugs and switched their scope from scoring to stellar.
Okay, so it _is_ essentially the Rev by numbers - the listener is fully aware at all times of what direction the track is going to take (it's going upwards throughout, by the way) - but when the band's so good, and been so missed, who gives a stuff? This is yours for less than a quid. It's worth it.
