Devendra Banhart has a gift - his beautiful guitar strumming can shine a ray of light into this reviewer’s heart even on the greyest of London days. But Jesus, what is this man singing about?
On latest single, 'Little Yellow Spider', Banhart once again nicks his lines from the poetry book of a five-year-old girl and croons on about magical octopuses, crabs and albatrosses. The subjects may seem harmless, but when you stop to think about the fact that a bearded man with frighteningly large teeth is singing this, it makes you wonder if this song could be the soundtrack to a few slumber parties at the Neverland ranch.
But lets not get hung up on the fine details - the track's pleasantries are in abundance, and Banhart’s efforts are most welcome to these ears.
