Eagle eyed Zipper-watchers will recognise this from the mini-album the _Stereo and God_ from all the way back in November 2003 which, along with two others, has been re-recorded for the latest long-player The Heartlight Set. A bit cheeky you might think but the jury is veering in their favour as 1 is as lush and undeniably lovely as a summer single should be (and it is still summer, I checked).
As a real life couple, this love song could have been a little too saccharine if not for the fact that you never feel Vinny is directly addressing Tabitha Tindale, obviously aware that such Sonny-and-Cherisms would break the spell the song expertly casts. Add this to the fact that this new version brings the low-fi rhythm section punchily to the fore and you are left with a song that, despite having a male vocal, could nestle comfortably next to Driving on 9 on the Breeders' Last Splash. Praise doesn’t come much higher than that.
