Some bands just wash over you and no matter how hard they try – they can never fully break into your consciousness. Sure, these bands get played on the radio, but do you really give a flying fuck? Well Eberg get played on the radio. Okay, they’re not quite up there with Gary Jules in the airplay chart, but a few choice spins of ‘Plastic Lions’ has certainly made me sit up and take notice. How on this earth does Einar, the Icelander behind Eberg, sing that high? How does he make such a beautiful song come across so well on a first listen? How does he take all the best bits from Sigur Ros and Radiohead make a sound so unique and compelling that you’re falling over yourself to listen again?
Not the easiest of questions to answer, but there’s no doubting Eberg’s talents. Singed to Oxford’s Rotator label, this is Einar and band’s first single in the UK and with more tracks very different yet just as beautiful in the offing, you’ll be putting your virginity up on ebay to get a copy of the album when it’s finally released.
