The cover looks like wallpaper which could invite comparison to its aural content. But no. For sure ‘Mmmnn‘ sounds as laid back as the title suggests, and about as complicated as blowing on a dandelion clock or watching vapour trails slowly fade into the azure, but since when were they ever bad things?
Sheffield duo Vanessa Robinson's (lyrics / breathy mellifluousness) and Dave Johnson's (Vince Clarke boffinisms) sunny, home-made house music has caught the ears of both Norman Cook’s Southern Fried record label and Radio 1's Colin Murray. But don’t that that or their whimsical indie-band-esque name put you off. ‘Mmmnn‘ is a tranquil perfect-pop moment that marries Lemon Jelly to Moloko without the attendant annoying baggage of either.
Sensual and cool like an ice cube circling a nipple or licking lemon sorbet from her navel. Languid and warm like sun-tan oil slowly applied by gentle fingers or a shimmering Ibizan sunset. Mmmnn...
