So, Six By Seven then.
Perhaps gradually deferring to their gloomy persuasions over the years, these one-time stellar noise pop purveyors seem to now resemble the aural equivalent of a shrugging shoulder. 'Ocean' and 'Clouds' are neither here nor there - while still retaining a driving persistence, they seem hollow and uninspired. Without soul.
'Ocean' is taken from last year's '0:4' and is not without its charms. The monolithic drums and desolate synths take on a nicely hypnotic quality; the Jesus And Mary Chain-like melodies of the chorus hitting just the right spot. 'Clouds' however, taken from the internet only album 'Left Luggage At The Peveril Hotel' could easily be a rejected Doves b-side with its unassuming strum and distorted vocals. Regrettable lyrics and an unnecessary solo only serve to worsen proceedings.
Oh, there's also the utterly awful '100 Thousand And 80 (A Journey Into Space)'. Well, awful unless you're a fan of Jean Michel Jarre. Thank you and goodnight.
