**"Beautiful...just beautiful..." the spaceman voice loops over twinkly, jazzy dance beats. Honey-marinated guitars (think Chemical Brothers ca. 'Surrender') bounce around like rubber ducks in some psychodelic dreamland. This is the yummy Lemon Jelly single 'Spacewalk', causing me to jump about in my room like a loon. Uhm, yeah. Really!**
Track 2 "Pushy" starts with a muffeled choir, then moves into a relaxed beat and gentle melody. No twinkling here, instead a voice-over of something like a therapy session with a socially anxious girl who prefers animals to people. Vocal samples can be so hit-and-miss with dance tracks, but these tracks get it all right. It feels like watching a short movie at the same time as listening to the song, adds a lively new layer to the sound.
'Return to Patagonia', track 3, finishes its almost inaudible 5 second intro with the words "Where are we?". "Won't be long now!", the answer comes back, as the song jumps into life all fuzzywarm and hyperactive, like the first cup of coffee in the morning.
Oh, and then some benedictian monks appear another minute into the song... This is probably the most dance-able track of the three, but all of the songs move you sweetly.
Yes. Lemon Jelly really are as edibly tangy as their name suggests.
