Electronic rave types sonicanimation may operate among the realms of superstar DJs in their native Australia, but don’t expect us poms to think they’re quite so bonzer on this evidence.
Debut UK single ‘I’m A DJ’ levels some commendably cutting critique at the cult of their fellow celebrity vinyl spinners – no-one with ears can argue with the main refrain of “I’m a DJ, my head is up my ass” – but it’s doubtful that the cold, almost coffee table, booming bass is part of the send up.
And that irony, coupled with a wholly forgettable tune, reduces a potential classic down to a few soundbites (see “I’m not allowed to dance, I’m not allowed to smile”) and, truthfully, not a lot else.
