I’m really going to try and refrain from classifying ‘_Unseeded’ by Sumo as (modern day) punk rock because, although this is the obvious genre, it’s a bit of a misleading term. Punk rock conjures up, in my mind at least, an image of “shallow” American skater kids playing hyped up guitar pop (think Sum 41 or Blink 182). And, to be frank, Sumo are a little more deserving than to have that stereotype slapped in their face.
First comes the meaty, bluesy style bass; then the adrenaline infused drumming, jagged guitar-line and finally; a rather husky reef-cross-manics vocal section launch in. ‘_Unseeded’ is such a funky li’l number, it’s bound to have you dancing around the room in an aptly “groovy” way – Hey! Iit’s the only way to really enjoy such psychedelic beats and intensely catchy melody!
With their own sympathetic blend of vivacious light-hearted sounds and a maintained underlying measure of depth and soul, Sumo are here to remind the world of how punk-rock used to be, and judging by this, still should be! It's out on April 2nd - go buy it!!
