The Kennedy Soundtrack

Wrong Day

Label: Instant Karma Records Release Date: 18/02/2002

rluckett by Robert Luckett February 13th, 2002

Ahhh, Yes! This is exactly what we need. After two solid years of pot-bellied American Rock excess, Britain looks to finally be offering some resistance. A and Hundred Reasons are doing their bit, but out there on the front line are The Kennedy Soundtrack.

Hailing from the grimy, grey streets of Newport, The Kennedy Soundtrack have clearly got something to be angry about. From the hushed, whispered opening to the spine tingling count in, "Wrong Day" screams power, excitement and melody in a way not truly heard since Rage Against The Machine were in their angry prime.

"You picked the wrong fucking day!" screams lead singer Dave Challenger with as much venom as he can muster. This is rock music how it should be. Pissed-off, irate and gnashing it's teeth. Chugging guitars combine with an aggressive hip-hop beat, and just as climax and ejaculation is about to be reached, The Kennedys pull out, and go into an almost Faithless-like mantra. Then they kick back in again. 3:50 of the real thing.

This single also demonstrates the sheer appeal of this band. "Here 4 U" is as delicate and blissed out as they come. One trick ponies? Methinks not.

The Kennedy Soundtrack want to become "fucking massive". Better keep out of their way, hadn't you?
