Damon, you've saved me again. With only one week to go till Xmas, I was feeling distinctly un-festive, merely bitter and jaded. Yet this morning, my copy of Damon Gough's *new limited edition vinyl only xmas single, "_Donna and Blitzen*_" arrived. The cute artwork was good enough, then I listened to it.
In a parallel universe, namely one where taste prevails and Xmas songs can still be good, "Donna and Blitzen" would be xmas number one. This has an almost Spector-like feel it, and Damon even wishes us an embarrasingly hushed "Merry Christmas" at the start, before telling the story of Donna and Blitzen's first flight. Apparently this version, to be on the forthcoming soundtrack album "About A Boy", is more schmaltzy than the original version for Twisted Nerve's "Christmas Stocking Filler", but I don't care, its Christmas, I wanna feel corny. I feel extremely lucky to get my hands on this, the best xmas song since *Paul McCartney's *"Wonderful Christmas Time" (don't snigger).
Cheers Damon, I'm gonna put on a big jumper and drink eggnog, get all sentimental, and sing this till someone punches me.
