As far as Kelly Jones is concerned, it's all about the song writing. I read this interview he did in the NME a few months ago where he bemoaned the state of British song writing, and demanded that people got back to "proper" song writing and forgot about this stupid Dance music. "Proper" song writing Kelly? What, like this?
For a man who constantly swipes at manufactured bands, this is a pretty manufactured song. So predictable, so formulaic, so dull. It just frustrates me that Jones seems to think that "proper" song writing constitutes boring acoustic strumming, cod-philosophical lyrics, and a nice bit of harmonica at the end.
I'd like to know what we're all about"?? Wow, Kell!! Questioning our existence!! What a good, original idea!! "Will I get old and die, with someone"?? Yeah, cos you're an unattractive, poor bastard aren't you Kelly!! You're certain to die alone!! In your mansion.
This is first and foremost a tired record. Kelly Jones currently seems to be going through the motions, and trying to pass it off with some kind of 'authenticity' tag to it.
Why don't you tell it like it really is?? you ask, Kelly. What, that you're a horrible, backward-looking, no ideas band who think that all music made after 1974 is poo?? Right.
