Melbourne's The Avalanches have been getting more than their fair share of hype of late, and their debut single on XL goes some way to explaining why. A deliriously upbeat, luminous slice of dance-pop, 'Since I Left You' is about as sunny a record released in March can be.
The sound, dreamy and dislocated and seemingly derived from acres of overlooked 70's vinyl, is similar to their excellent remix of Badly Drawn Boy's 'The Shining'. Think druggy flutes, a skippy beat and a xylophone tinkling somewhere underneath and you're halfway there. All in all, a disposable single to warm the soul, and one that further raises expectation of their soon to be released debut album.
