London/Winchester duo *Capital X *are very, very electro indeed. All grinding synths and tranced out vocals, they take basic-yet-compulsive beats as the backbone to their sound and then drown them in layers of fuzzing electronic noise. They’ve a façade of processed distance and detached electric cool, but also boast a beat you can dance to – 'Search and Destroy' in particular demands that the listener tap their feet and nod their head in time as the synths fizz and the drum machine clicks.
The rough recording quality makes the songs sound a little tentative and lacking in definition, but Capital X have a charm and ambition to their sound which shines through from beneath the ragged edges of the recording. Danceable, detached and tuneful, they tick all the right electro boxes - and this is only their first demo. CX clearly have the potential to become something pretty special as they continue to forge their own distinctive sound, and in the meantime this demo is well worth seeking out and playing repeatedly until each chorus is irreparably entrenched in your mind.
