The current Nottingham "scene", if that's the right word for it, seems to linger in two seperate portals; first up you've got the long established garage rock camp, which has seemingly existed since time began and Jesus first learned how to play 'Have Love Will Travel' on his rosary collaged Les Paul; then there's the C86 revivalists who seem to specialise in all things cutesy, jangly and err... Amelia Fletcher.
Nutronstars somehow manage to fall in between the two, as 'Carlton Pop!!!' goes from the Shangri Las-cum-Mary Chain strum of 'The Girl From The Chain Gang' to the incessantly odd (think Electric Soft Parade after a cocktail of Prozac'n'Shandy) 'We Are The Undersea Creatures' but always, always finishes up on the delightfully dizzy Helen Love-like pop rush of 'White Room/White Noise'.
'Carlton Pop!!!' is one of those CDs that demands to be listened to before a night on the town, a somewhat jubilant antidote to all those depressingly morose Coldplay records that are just begging to be dismissed to the confines of a wheely-bin forever more.
