I've been looking forward to this one, the return of local boys Six Months On. A more varied selection this time, but the same positivity that made 'Smile' so pleasurable.
The title track is a bit special, easing us in with some soft guitar and tribal-esque drumming, flowing into a verse that's somehow upbeat and downhearted at the same time. Then the huge chorus swells up out of nowhere like some stadium rock monster. Stuff about memories haunting you and dreams penetrating your everyday existence, and depressing stuff like that, but in a good way. An anthem is what it is, I could listen to it all day.
Speaking of anthems, 'Free Rock Radio' is one of those "whatever happened to all those great things from our past?" songs where some old geezer gets really over excited about things he did before he lost it. Except that Veggie (SMO frontman) hasn't lost anything. A nice, hard rocking number with some Ramones-esque chanting and one of those hooks that you just know you've heard somewhere before...
'Forever My Friend' is a jolly little ska-tinged thing that has you tapping your toes, or nodding your head, or whatever it is you subconsciously do to catchy songs. Sticks in your mind, like any good closing track should. Check out Veggie's page for more info, or download a few tracks from Peoplesound.
