Silverman have a secret weapon: singer Anna Dennis. Imagine Dido’s vocal quality without that nasal whinging. Yes that good.
Therefore initially ‘Speed of Life Pt 2’ is slightly confusing. Sounding like Jarvis Cocker singing French cabaret over Massive Attack, any confusion melts away to show sheer genius, genius which can only be improved upon with the addition of Dennis’ vocals resulting in a duet Nick Cave and Kylie style.
Themes of sex and pain run rife, buried with electronic noise and beats, which fortunately stretch throughout the album. Although lyrically there are points where the circles being walked are almost visible, the beautiful soundscapes underlying them make this album, and Silverman, still utterly beguiling.
