The Firebird Band

The Setting Sun & It's Satellites.

Label: Cargo Records Release Date: 21/12/2000

DiSvsMatt by Mat Hocking December 21st, 2000

I think the only people who will have heard of The Firebird Band are fans of Braid who may have heard guitarist/ singer Chris Broach talking about this side-project of his in fanzines now & again. However, since the demise of Braid at the end of summer ’99 The Firebird Band seems to have become a full-time project.

But be warned Braid fans for this album is quite a strange experience. With strange beats & effects [courtesy of ex-Bull In China/ Big Sideshow drummer Tommy Shiminetto] colliding into bizarre chord sequences & heavy grooves it could be a little unsettling for some.

Which means fans of the slightly different and off-kilter such as 12 Rods or Man or Astroman should definitely check this out -even those into more psychedelic Indie-rock like The Drum. Put it this way, if John Peel ever got his hands on this it would be played on heavy rotation.
