darkstar return with a second album - their first for warp, after their debut 'north' was released on kode 9's fledgling hyper dub label in 2010. 'news from nowhere' is a totally different record to 'north'. it's somewhat brighter in mood, but deeper in feeling and intention...it's much more rhythmic and fluid. it moves quicker. parts are a soothing, emotive and self-reflective listen, with ethereal vocals that seem to whisper in your ear whilst other cuts are epic and reach kaleidoscopic heights. the group wrote the album in the west yorkshire countryside and finished it at producer richard formby's analog-centric studio in leeds. think a modern day version of massive attack mixed with invention of the beta band and super furry animals. 'news from nowhere' is another enormous step forward for a band who never stand still. listen at http://darkstar.ws
