Three Trapped Tigers - Numbers 1-13
At its most basic, this is electronica with a live drum kit and a drummer with 1s and 0s for brains, but the intricacy of the rhythms and the transitions between arrangements are mind-meltingly ingenious.»

a band whose music is at its best when it refuses to rest, its intricate patterns searching new directions to run-off towards at a moment's notice. if 'route one or die' arrived fully formed as a debut album, then eps '1', '2' and '3' (collected here as numbers: 1-13) are the glorious sounds of the workshop, the three-piece splattering technicolor ideas across canvases at whim; they resonate with the happiness of a group finding their feet and doing so without constrictions. with each ep arranged chronologically, numbers: 1-13 portrays the evolution of three trapped tigers' sound, the group taking a myriad of directions - often within the same song - as they sought to fit together new combinations and ideas, something indicative of their constantly changing creative processes. '1' with the exception of '3', 'ep1' was written by me alone before the band was formed'explains tom rogerson of its five tracks, which were - quite apart from their fledgling status at the time - recorded in berlin, with the strokes' producer gordon raphael a fan after witnessing a house show performance. 'it was fun of course to be out there and to have a 'name' interested in us,' moots the multi-instrumentalist, 'but it's not how we've worked since as it felt like too much pressure.'
