Holy Ghost! - Holy Ghost!
Holy Ghost! provides some brilliant floor fillers and a snatch of great singles, but the duo seem too intimidated by their own influences, and pay them too much respect, to really meet their potential. »

this is the brilliant, eponymously titled debut from alex frankel and nick millhiser, the two new yorkers that make up holy ghost!. signed to dfa records, the label run by lcd soundsystem's james murphy, 'holy ghost!' has been in the making for some time. nick and alex have been releaseing records under the holy ghost! moniker on dfa since they dropped the astonishing 'hold on' in 2007. its cool, clean synths set them apart from similarly inclined disco heads, and suggested an understanding and originality that few could match. now with their debut long-player holy ghost! have delivered on that early promise. kicking off with the stomping 4/4 beat of recent free track 'do it again', it's a blitz through the old and new - from 70's and 80's r&b to disco and new wave - to create an brilliantly original and thrilling debut album. cleanly rendered, it's the work of two people with their finger on the pulse of the dancefloor, and an understanding of the unifying purpose that music can have, and they've gone and produced a work of art. holy ghost! have become the pre-eminent remixes of the last two years, with reworkings for everyone from lcd soundsystem and phoenix to kings of leon and mark ronson. they've also worked with luminaries such as ghostface killah, caroline polacheck of chairlift and michael macdonald who features on album closer 'some children'. holy ghost!
