at last the debut album from the virgins gets released in the uk on cd. they were on nearly everyone's tip lists for 2009. the album is a 10 track serving of party tunes written about the new york city life and everything in between. singer donald cumming's elvis costello-lite vocals slide easily from arch ('rich girls') to tender ('love is colder than death'), while the band backs him like the strokes on a funk bender, all big choruses and tightrope bass lines. the virgins is punchy and slinky and over before you know it, but good, dirty fun while it lasts.....release date: 20/04/2009
