cheap cd reissue with four bonus tracks added on. midlake formed in the small, quirky town of denton, texas. these five gifted and diligent musicians spent their late teens and early 20's forging their singular musical vision and soon enough they were discovered by simon raymonde, head of bella union records, who fell deeply in love with the band and their dazzling music. although they never sound anything but contemporary, midlake's second album takes many of its musical cues from the 70s. after they'd recorded their debut, which drew comparisons with bands such as mercury rev, grandaddy and the flaming lips, singer / songwriter tim smith found himself listening to artists such as neil young, fleetwood mac, america, csn and joni mitchell, as well as a lesser known artist called jimmie spheeris. he found that it was these artists that moved him the most, and it was these influences that were to find their way into the incredible new music that he was soon to compose. midlake's second album is a masterpiece of top-drawer song-writing, elegant arrangements and inventive instrumentation.....release date: 03/03/2009
