limited 7" with a jan hammer mix on the flip. thus spake pop icon, fashion entrepreneur, hip hop superstar and all-round cultural lightning rod that is kanye west on his blog when swedish trio peter bjorn and john sent him their latest single, 'nothing to worry about', to listen to. and of course, what 'ye recommends, other people shortly follow suit as well, with the track spreading like wildfire through the blogosphere in mere hours. and all with mr west not even being sure what the name of the track was. the man was obviously quite excited. and who could blame him? this is a band, after all, who set the world alight with their all-conquering, globe-gobbling smash hit 'young folks' and who then proceeded to dazzle us with their sublimely gorgeous 'writer's block' album in 2007. 2008 saw them resurface with the decidedly quirky opus 'seaside rock', which teased and tantalized in equal measure, but it is their forthcoming record 'living thing', released march 30 - and their follow-up to 'writer's block' proper - that will see them melting hearts everywhere from auckland to timbuktu with their wily way with a lovelorn lyric and casually infectious tune. and, make no mistake, 'nothing to worry about' is one song that undoubtedly deserves the hype. it's got it all: handclaps. hooks so big and sturdy that you could hang an elephant on them. a chorus simpler than the monday crossword puzzle, yet catchier than the ebola virus. a madcap, andreas nilsson-directed video featuring dancing japanese rockabillies. even a children's choir, for maria von trapp's sake. it is the kind of off-kilter burst of genius we've always expected from this most extraordinary band of outsiders, and a more than worthy successor to (whisper it) 'young folks' if ever a successor was indeed needed. and if you don't believe us, believe kanye.....release date: 30/03/2009
