Electro-punkin’ duo The Death Set (‘mother fucking’ optional) blast outta Baltimore and onto your stereo, if you’re any fun, with ‘MFDS’, a four-tracker lead-in for their forthcoming debut album Worldwide.
Okay, three tracks ‘proper’; the fourth merely the band’s name repeated over 30-odd seconds of chugged and buzzed backing static and click-clicks. Actually, the song before it, ‘Intermission’, is pretty much the same. But faster. The lead is ‘Negative Thinking’, a song that’ll prick up the ears of anyone recently won over by The Mae Shi’s visit to our shores (and also admirers of Dan Deacon, Cutting Pink With Knives, Best Fwends). It’s prickly electro-heat, snatched samples and keyboard glamour, lo-fi’ed into a dance-happy clap-along.
Winners, MotherFuckingDeathSet.
