Sun In My Pocket EP

Label: Xtramile Release Date: 28/01/2008

30338
domgourlay by Dom Gourlay February 1st, 2008

Noel Gallagher isn't renowned for making regular trips to Siberia, so it was perhaps something of a surprise when locally reared four-piece sonicflyer found themselves asked by the man himself to play a show with him in Moscow.

Even more surprising is the fact that sonicflyer don't appear to make the type of music one would expect Gallagher to be especially fond of, given his regular endorsement for the likes of Kasabian and their ilk.

Instead, this four-piece owe more to the whimsical pop and blissful melodies of the likes of Mew and Blonde Redhead. The title track sounds like an artefact of the first wave of shoegaze (think Drop Nineteens or Madder Rose) while the sublime 'Tonight' is racy, eloquent pop_ a la _Belly.

To just say sonicflyer sound like A, B, or C could also be said to be doing them a disservice somewhat, and in singer Yulia they have an engaging and unique presence that should see them through any forthcoming identity crises with ease.
