A regular haunt for local and touring bands, Manchester's Night And Day venue is under threat of closure due to a local resident - who's just moved in next door - registering a noise complaint.
The venue's website carries the following message:
"We have bent over backwards to accommodate this resident, and begged them to withdraw their objection. From the tone of the letters we have been receiving from the council it is clear that they are firmly on the side of the resident. Despite the fact that they have been there for a matter of months, as opposed to our thirteen years and the fact that we employ thirty three people. Not to mention of course that we provide a forum for local rock and roll bands and other artists to perform, meet and progress their careers.
"Coincidentally – perhaps – we have, over the last month, come under intense scrutiny from both the licensing officials and the police, and we are firmly of the opinion that the council want us closed down.
"Part of our campaign to stay open includes gathering as much public support as we can. So please sign our online petition which we will be producing should we ever have to appear in court."
Call yourself a lover of live music? Go and sign the petition then! nightnday.org is your destination.
The venue's posters are lovely too. See above.
DiScuss: Would you move next to a venue if you already knew it might, like, y'know, be noisy?
