Having slaughtered loads of innocent people in Iraq, the US now wants to kill your computer to teach you a lesson for downloading copyrighted material.
Republican, Senator Orrin Hatch said damaging computers "may be the only way you can teach someone about copyright."
Although this would contravene the US's anti-hacking laws, the Senator added, "There's no excuse for anyone violating copyright laws. If that's the only way, then I'm all for destroying their machines. If a few hundred thousand people suffered damage to their computers, the online community would realise the clampdown was serious."
Hatch earned $18,000 (£11,125) last year from his own compositions.
A spokesman for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said "Congress may be forced to consider stronger measures if more stringent methods were not put in place."
Last year, Democratic senator Howard Berman proposed "hack-attacks" on PCs with illegal downloads on.
