Not surprising really, as he was asking for a £2million deal even though his last album sold a relatively-low 130,000 copies. Independiente were worried that they wouldn't recoup such a cost and thus it was time to say "bye bye".
"Independiente decided not to take up the next option so I am free – but not cheap," he snorts.
Although classed as an independent label by name and nature, Independiente is half-funded by big daddies Sony, who recently dropped Toploader for having stupid perms or something.
