‘The Box’ broadcasts music videos based on viewers phoning in to request them. The more votes they get, the higher up the request-chart they go. This system is easily up for abuse by record companies and a paid bunch of ‘street teams’.
Well, the shit has finally hit the fan and the owners of the channel, EMAP, are doing something about it.
To quote an EMAP spokesperson: "Please note that certain videos are currently being investigated as we are aware of suspicious call patterns occurring over the last few weeks. Should any irregularities continue, EMAP TV will take appropriate action against the tracks involved. It's very important that our charts should reflect and represent a genuine consumer demand of current and forthcoming releases, and we will ensure that this remains the case."
The videos in question obviously haven’t been named.
