'No Pussy Blues' from Grinderman's 2007 début album, has been given the remix treatment five times over in celebration of the summer festival vibe and general dancing in fields. The song's raw filth has been channelled by two of Nick Cave's near nighbours and Brighton residents, Adam Freeland and Midfield General, as well as G.e.R.M., Electronic Picnic and German industrial noise punk specialist T. Raumschmiere.
Only two of the five have tickled the public ear so far and both can be heard exclusively on the Grinderman Myspace page here. The pair on show, by Marylin Mason mixer, Adam Freeland and G.e.R.M., each differ enormously from the other in style and treatment.
Speaking on their own Myspace page, G.e.R.M., who have previously received airplay for a Futureheads remix, sound pretty chuffed about the whole thing.
“We have completed two more official remixes. This time for Nick Cave's amazing Grinderman project (really pleased to be involved on this one, the guy's a god!). It's pretty full on and peeps seem to love it.”
Grinderman and Bad Seed, Martyn Casey, tells us what we probably already know about the remixers' blueprint.
"Set over a throbbing pornographic bass line, the world holds its breath for the onslaught of the wah's shriek of frustration and dirty water, 'No Pussy Blues' continues in the blues tradition and its timeless fascination with getting laid...or not."
No news yet on where or when the other remixes will be heard but in the meantime, Grinderman close their summer with appearances at the Hydro Connect festival in Scotland, August 30, and the Electric Picnic in Ireland on August 31, before attentions are turned towards making that second album.
