DiS faves Sonic Cathedral will release a split 7" featuring M83 and Maps remixing each other's work.
The A-side sees M83's Anthony Gonzalez remix Maps' 'To The Sky' into "a mournful slice of melancholia with several different segments, reminiscent of Spiritualized’s classic ‘Feel So Sad’, before funereal drums crash in towards the end, concluding with a gloriously uplifting coda," according to Sonic Cathedral's Nat Cramp.
Flipside 'We Own The Sky’, taken from M83’s forthcoming fifth studio album, Saturdays=Youth (out April 14th, details), sees Maps mainman James Chapman rework it into a wonky slice of electronica that builds into "something that is at once beautiful and disconcerting, not unlike My Bloody Valentine gone disco." Cramp again.
The single arrives as a limited edition 7" on Monday 7th April.
In the meantime, Sonic Cathedral will be taking their mix of shoegaze, psychedelia and electronica across the country next month for a number of shows including several with Ulrich Schnauss. DiS will also be popping up here and there to spin some tunes behind the decks. Those dates in full are...
