Since the release of the critically acclaimed NME album of the year 'Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space', in April 1997, frontman/vocalist/songwriter Jason Pierce sacked three members guitarist Mike Mooney, drummer Damon Reece and bassist Sean Cook with keyboardist Kate Radley leaving after marrying ex-Verve vocalist Richard Ashcroft. Other than Pierce only keyboardist Thighpaulsandra and saxaphonist Ray Dickaty are the only remaining members from the band which toured the album.
The new album has been produced by frontman Jason Pierce and recorded at Sir George Martin's Air Studios in London, and includes a 30-piece string section, brass instruments and choirs.
Thighpaulsandra was quoted as saying of the 4 years gap between the last Spiritualized material "Jason's putting the finishing touches to it now. You've got to understand that Jason works at his own pace, and there's nothing you can do to speed him up. The other thing is that it's a big project."
Mimi Parker of the band Low is rumoured to have contributed vocals to 3 tracks from the new album.
