A statement from his wife Grace, posted on the bulletin board at www.edwyncollins.com, reads: "Edwyn suffered a cerebral haemorhage on Sunday night. He is being well looked after in hospital. When there is more to report I'll let you all know."
Collins' management also issued a statement alongside similar lines adding, "Doctors are trying to stabilise his condition. As soon as we have more information we will let you know."
Collins fronted cult favourites Orange Juice - signed to fabled Postcard Records - from 1976 to 1985. The singer/songwriter is best known for the smash hit 'A Girl Like You'. He recently produced the debut album by Little Barrie, and has worked with Scottish songsmiths Sons & Daughters. Collins also co-wrote and starred in the Channel 4 series 'West Heath Yard', a satire on the music industry.
Those new to Collins should check out his 1995 solo album 'Gorgeous George' or for a fine example of his production work, track down 'I Am The Greatest' by one-time Setanta signings A House.
Get well soon Edwyn.
