Maxi: Our band is about decadence, Rock and Roll, having fun, decent tunes, live music, debauchery and glamour. Things a lot of bands out there don't have.
DIS: So how would you describe your music to the untrained ear?
Maxi : Sleaze-rock!
DIS: How did you guys get together then, and why "king adora'?
Maxi: The Birmingham underground rock scene is pretty incestuous, everyone knows everyone else's bands and the like. I was making music when I saw Nelsta performing with another band and thought 'right I'm poaching him for my band'. Nelsta knew the other two, and so we started jamming together. That was two years ago. As for the band name, well one day, we were out shopping, and we saw this huge, six-foot-like vibrator in a shop window. It's name was 'King Adora', advertised for 'maximum, heightened sensation'. And that's what we're all about.
DIS: What is your favourite part of being in a band?
Maxi: There's lots of things i like doing. Touring, both playing live and the fun on the tour bus. With touring we can be reaching out and 'connecting' with our fans, I really like doing that.
DIS: Explain 'fun' to me? I hear your band is notorious with the groupies?
Maxi: Groupies....?? Let's just say we're young and we do like to enjoy ourselves. We have a laugh on the bus, y'know playing a show, partying, getting wrecked. It's quite like the stereotyped notion of the tourbus - in films and all.
DIS: I understand you took part on various prestigious tours, such as Mansun, My Vitriol, Queens of the Stone Age, Crackout and Sunna. Which tour was your favourite and why?
Maxi: My favourite was the Mansun tour. We're quite similar to them, as in we dress up and like to have a good time. The crowd found us easy to relate to, we were indeed 'poaching' their fans. We both seem to have die-hard, hardcore fanbases.
Nelsta: We learnt a lot from them as people, about the business, touring and I really respect them, they've gone so far and done so well.
Maxi: Different crowds see you differently though. It hasn't been all glory for us. When we supported QOTSA, the crowd were expecting a heavier, less-glitzy, darker sound, similar to their band, and we didn't exactly move them. That was a challenge.
DIS: What was the highpoint of being in King Adora for you?
Maxi: Touring in Japan. That really hit me that there's people round here that think they know all there is to life in their own little world, but there's so much more out there that they don't know because they haven't looked. We learnt lots about the culture in the 6 days that we were over there.
DIS: Are the fans and gigs vastly different from those over here?
Maxi: The Japanese fans are extremely sober, yet excitable. You get very few tipsy ones over there - the Japanese seem to really love the show, yet they're more 'high on life'. Their shows have to be over really early though, around 8 o'clock. I don't know why that is though. Having said that the home crowds are great to play to too. We seem to connect with them better.
DIS: Is Japan the only place you've toured outside the UK
Maxi : Yes, although I look forward to travelling elsewhere.
Nelsta: Our record company had various strategies which meant that we were only allowed to target the UK and Japan this year. Having said that I'd love to play to more people and see more of the world, it's good fun.
DIS: Is it all a mad-rush on the tourbus or do you have your quiet moments too?
Maxi: I enjoy listening to music, I also read every now and again. Nel's always got his head buried in a book though.
DIS: So what's your favourite book then? Do the books tend to inspire your writing?
Maxi: I just finished reading the 'Torture Garden' - it's an excellent book, very thought-provoking. Books in particular don't tend to inspire my writing, it's more about what's going on in my life at the time. Nelsta: The last book I really enjoyed was the Johnny Rotten biography, he's an inspiration.
DIS: Who are your other heroes?
Maxi: Guns and Roses, Johnny Rotten, Mansun, loads really.
DIS: You have a new album coming out soon.
Maxi: Yes, we're going in to record it next week.
Nelsta: We've just finished doing a demo actually.
DIS: Is there a massive change of direction for you? How is it different to 'Vibrate You', the last album?
Maxi: It's a lot darker and heavier, less-feel good. We're technically more tight on it, it's the album we've always wanted to make but never had time. The last one was done in such a rush, I've always felt we'd underachieved there.
Nelsta: We've used different producers on it too.
DIS: Why did you re-release 'Bionic' in May this year?
Maxi: We recorded our first album with a producer, but his sound was slightly too slick for my liking, so we took it to a different one and tried again, and ended up re-recording the whole album with him because he brought an original dimension to our sound. That's why we re-did 'Bionic'.
Nelsta: We like to use different producers. You learn something new off each one, and you get to experiment with new ideas. Once you've worked with one, it's best to go off on top, to stop yourselves from going stale.
DIS: Last but not least, a few random questions..feathers or glitter?
Maxi: Depends what for? Feathers are better in pillows, you can't put glitter in pillows. But glitter for wearing most definitely.
DIS: KFC or McDonalds?
Maxi: McDonalds win everytime.
Robbie: Yeh. Don't ask Nelsta coz he's a vegetarian.
Maxi: he's a wimp, he only gets chocolate milkshakes. I always get a Quarterpounder with Fries.
DIS: Written-word or typed letters?
Robbie and Maxi: Written word is always better.
Nelsta: Unless it's a bill.
DIS: So if a fan asked your for your socks, what would you do?
Maxi: I"d give them away.
DIS: Can I have your socks then?
Maxi: Yeh, sure.
DIS: So if the fans could give you a gift for Xmas what would it be?
Maxi: just to keep supporting us and coming out to our gigs.
Nelsta: Fags, Booze, Socks....but what I'd really like is a Hohner Professional L90 Goldtop guitar! so if anybody's got the money, please give me one.
