DC's premiere experimental and instrumental rockers Caverns have released a new 4 song EP, the debut release of a new Baltimore-based label called Aural Slate Recordings.

We Lied, Caverns' newest release, represents an interesting stylistic departure. Embellishing on their trademark angular guitar meets jazz piano approach, the band incorporates electronic and ambient elements reminiscent of artists such as Autechre and Tortoise to create a more textured and atmospheric sound. As the title suggests, the band has broken from their purely instrumental past to include vocal melodies on the tracks “Arctic Phantoms” and “I. Fight. Vampires.” Finally, Caverns departs from yet another of their own conventions by including their first ever cover song, a faithful but personalized cover of the instrumental “December 21, 2012” from recently reunited DC legends Frodus.
