London Rehersal Room Crisis
Recently Backstreet Studios in Holloway was given its marching orders (it's either closing soon or already gone) thanks to British Rail or LU deciding they can make much more money from a property developer.
This is bad enough as it is, but last night our bassist (who works on the crossrail link) informed us that Enterprise Studios in Tottenham Ct. Road are soon to follow.
It seems that the company that bought the Astoria already owned the entire block that includes Denmark Street and has bought up the Astoria because of the crossrail, the idea being that they have a brand new development to create and want to integrate it into the proposed crossrail station and get the Government to co-fund the pulling down of the area.
And they want to start tomorrow, pretty much. Luckily the Government doesn't yet have all the funding through but essentially it looks like Enterprise will be going to the dogs.
And Tin Pan Alley for that matter.
So (phew) I only know of a few other places. What other rehearsal spaces are there? We really need far more regardless...
Bush Studios under the Ham & City Shep Bush line - fairly far out of the way for us.
Scar in Camden, which has always had bad equipment and sound. Maybe it's better now?
Unit 9 in Balham, which is nice but Balham's inconvenient for us.
Any other decent North London rooms that people know about or preferably central?
